Testing is the lynch pin of quality software. The JTE prototyping methodology utilizes 3 types of testing. The first testing type is the “testing’ performed by the SMEs designated by the Government program manager. The second testing type is the Development Testing and Evaluation (DT&E) performed by the JTE Test Engineer (TE). The third testing type is the acceptance testing performed by the customer on which to base the decision to accept or reject the delivered software application. Key Benefits
SME TestingThe SMEs are future users of the software that are designated by the customer to receive the software prototypes and to provide feedback to JTE via the Government program manager. SMEs are not usually required to provide test plans and they are not constrained in the nature of their comments. All SME comments are entered into and managed in the SCR database. The comments are addressed in succeeding prototype versions that are sent to the SMEs. DT&EJTE employees TEs, who have experience in military mission planning and execution, are familiar with PFPS and JMPS, have knowledge of applications software development processes. The designated TE is introduced to the project during the estimating phase and is provided each of the prototypes as it is built and sent to the SMEs. The TE uses the RTM, prototypes, and SME feedback to prepare a DT&E test plan. Because the TE has access to the first, and all succeeding, prototypes the TE finds problems early in the development cycle when they can be fixed with minimal impact to cost and schedule. Because the TE has access to the SME feedback, DT&E includes testing from the user perspective and realistic evaluation of the operational utility of the application. Acceptance TestingJTE includes in its estimates of a projects cost and schedule, resources to support acceptance testing. This support includes providing copies of the JTE DT&E test plan, test report, and SME feedback to the customer’s test agency.
